KV+D functioned as the prime consultant for a multi-disciplinary team including Architects, Engineers, historic preservationists, and environmental graphics consultants in the production of a Master Plan and Capital Improvement Plan for the Carter House State Historic Site in Franklin, TN. The Master Plan established a layout and design palette for the development of a visitor’s center, trails, historically accurate gardens, and interpretive signage celebrating the Carter House while also paying homage to the locations and defensive works and troop activities from the day of the Battle of Franklin. The Master plan established connections to adjacent, historically significant sites and set the stage for the acquisition and incorporation of additional properties into the Battle of Franklin. KVD also prepared the site planning and design for the New Visitors Center as the first phase of the overall master plan implementation.
